Candle Making for Beginners

Are you the type of person who truly enjoys making things from scratch especially when it comes to arts and crafts? If you are looking for a new hobby to help you pass the time with, why not check out candle making? This activity will surely prove to be a very fun and relaxing experience after a tiring work week. If you are a newbie at this, don’t fret because making candles is actually fairly easy and fast to make. The only thing that is important here is that you have loads of creativity to make your candles look special and more unique compared to the usual ones that you can find in the store.

But first things first, before you get started on candle making you need to make sure that you have a nice place in your home where you will be able to work on your candles. The area should not only be spacious but it should also be able to accommodate your makeshift double boiler which you will need in order to melt the wax that you are going to use for your candles. When it comes to handling the wax, do be extra careful so that you won’t end up burning yourself from the hot wax. While stirring the melted wax to your desired consistency, do handle the pot with a comfortable pot holder and make sure that you have a good grip on the pot, then carefully keep stirring the melted wax with a wooden stirrer to make sure that all the bits and pieces of the wax are melted evenly. If you are living with kids at home do keep a watchful eye on them so that they don’t end up hurting themselves or causing trouble while you prepare your wax. Once the wax is already melted, do be very careful when handling the pot and the tin which contains the melted wax. Carefully pour the melted wax into the candle molds that you have already prepared on the table. It is very important that you take precautionary measures when it comes to handling the hot wax because not only should you be careful about not burning yourself but you also need to make sure that your candles won’t turn out ugly because of unsightly lumps or the uneven distribution of the melted wax.

If you are planning to make the candle more colourful or have a special scent, do add the fragrance oil or color dye that you want while you are still melting the wax in the tin can. Do not add these after you’ve finished melting the wax and have already placed it in the molds. When at the craft store, make sure to ask which kind of color dyes and fragrance oils are perfect to be used with wax.
